This project came with a series of interesting site constraints - primarily, the existing house was located in the flood plain and had numerous issues with water control on the site. The client wanted to build a new house at a higher elevation to address these issues but needed to keep the existing footprint for city zoning purposes.
I was responsible for initial design concept generation and building massing studies, looking at how we might achieve the goal of keeping the footprint while incorporating the clients' desire for a taller volume of space and an English cottage feel. We worked hand-in-hand with an interior designer to achieve this. I was also responsible for exterior design detailing and development, including window and door detailing and structural coordination.
